New Zealand bestows 'Officer of the Year' award on KP female cop

Battagram District Police Officer and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sonia Shamroz Khan has achieved international recognition for her services after receiving the 'Officer of the Year' award from the International Association of Women Police (IAWP) in Auckland, New Zealand. The accolade given to Khan comes following her exceptional contributions to law enforcement, innovative policing strategies, and her unwavering dedication to preventing violence against women throughout her career. The female cop has earlier served as DPO Chitral where, among her several accomplishments, establishing a complaint cell to register complaints against forced marriages remains prominent, as she played a pivotal role in combat such issues.

She was honored with the 'Officer of the Year' award by the International Association of Women Police (IAWP) in Auckland, New Zealand.



This recognition comes as a result of Khan's remarkable achievements in policing, her innovative strategies, and her unwavering commitment to preventing violence against women throughout her career.



Previously, Khan served as DPO Chitral, where one of her notable accomplishments was establishing a complaint cell to register reports of forced marriages, and she played a significant role in addressing such issues.



In her comments to Geo News, Khan dedicated her award to the victims of gender discrimination and the dedicated women police officers who work tirelessly despite various challenges. She emphasized that women in the police force have been making tremendous efforts to maintain peace and security.



Khan further noted that she has always taken into consideration cultural values and sensitivities in her work, which has encouraged more women to report crimes against them.



She highlighted that in the past, women in the remote Battagram district, where she served as DPO, were hesitant to seek assistance from the police, but her efforts have helped change this situation for the better.
