Colombo weather: These teams will play final if remaining Asia Cup matches are washed out

The Super 4 matches of the ongoing Asia Cup 2023 are currently surrounded by uncertainty due to the bad weather and prediction of rain in the next 15 days in Colombo, Sri Lanka. On top of that, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has announced to keep all the matches in Colombo despite knowing that the weather will disrupt the matches. Keeping that in view, if the remaining Super 4 matches are washed out, Pakistan — which defeated Bangladesh by seven wickets on Wednesday — will qualify for the final with four points. In case of washouts, Sri Lanka and India will be tied on three points each, along with the same Net Run Rate, which is why a coin toss will be done to determine which team will play the final. Bangladesh will only have two points since they have already lost one game in the Super Four, in case of washouts and thus will not be in the race for the final.

The ongoing Asia Cup 2023 Super 4 matches face uncertainty due to bad weather and the prediction of rain in Colombo, Sri Lanka, over the next 15 days. Despite this, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has decided to keep all the matches in Colombo.

If the remaining Super 4 matches are washed out, Pakistan, which defeated Bangladesh recently, will qualify for the final with four points. In the event of washouts, Sri Lanka and India will both have three points and the same Net Run Rate. A coin toss will then determine which team plays in the final.

Bangladesh will have only two points if the matches are washed out and will not be in contention for the final.

If the final is also washed out on September 17, the trophy will be shared.

ACC President Jay Shah faced criticism for the decision to hold Super 4 matches in Colombo instead of Hambantota due to anticipated rain. The decision was initially changed to Hambantota based on weather forecasts but was later reverted to Colombo, causing logistical issues for the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

The PCB has called for an urgent meeting to resolve the matter. Jay Shah, who is also the secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), has faced criticism for late changes to the ICC World Cup 2023 schedule.
