Spinner Shadab Khan's role as the vice-captain of the Pakistan cricket team is at risk due to his poor performance, according to a report in Daily Jang published on Monday.

The upcoming ICC World Cup 2023 is set to take place in India in October, and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is anticipated to announce the team by Thursday.

In this regard, Captain Babar Azam and Chief Selector Inzamam-ul-Haq had discussions and were scheduled to meet PCB Chief Zaka Ashraf in Lahore on Monday to discuss matters related to the squad.

The humiliating exit of the Green Shirts from the Asia Cup 2023 has posed challenges for the selectors, as the performance of several senior players, including Fakhar Zaman and Shadab Khan, was subpar.

Furthermore, in the later stages of the regional tournament, some players also suffered injuries, which some experts attribute to mismanagement of cricketers' workload by the board.

According to the publication, the board is considering a few administrative changes as well.

"During their meeting, the chief selector and the skipper also discussed the fitness problems and bad form of the important players," the report added.

However, while no major changes are expected, Shadab Khan's position is reportedly under threat due to his poor performance.
