The Super 4 matches of the ongoing Asia Cup 2023 are currently surrounded by uncertainty due to the bad weather and prediction of rain in the next 15 days in Colombo, Sri Lanka. On top of that, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has announced to keep all the matches in Colombo despite knowing that the weather will disrupt the matches. Keeping that in view, if the remaining Super 4 matches are washed out, Pakistan — which defeated Bangladesh by seven wickets on Wednesday — will qualify for the final with four points. In case of washouts, Sri Lanka and India will be tied on three points each, along with the same Net Run Rate, which is why a coin toss will be done to determine which team will play the final. Bangladesh will only have two points since they have already lost one game in the Super Four, in case of washouts and thus will not be in the race for the final.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) Men's ODI World Cup 2023 trophy has reached Pakistan for a three-day tour filled with iconic moments, and engaging activities, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said on Tuesday. “The ICC Men's ODI World Cup 2023 Trophy, one of the most coveted prizes in the world of cricket, touched down in Lahore on 4 September and is scheduled to depart on 6 September,” the PCB stated. The trophy began its tour in India, the host of the tournament, on June 27. Prior to coming to Pakistan, it has travelled to Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, the United States, West Indies, Bangladesh, Kuwait, Bahrain, Italy, France and England.
Pakistan women's cricket team clinched the three-match Twenty20 International (T20I) series after they beat South Africa with seven wickets in hand in the second match played at the National Stadium, Karachi on Sunday. After losing an early wicket of Shawaal Zulfiqar in the fourth over for just 23 runs, Bismah Maroof and Sidra Ameen formed an important 68-run partnership that helped the national team chase the target of 151 runs against the visitors. Ameen played a remarkable innings of 61 runs off 44 balls which included seven boundaries and was awarded the Player of the Match award.
Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bat against Sri Lanka in their first match of Asia Cup 2023 at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, Kandy in the island nation on Thursday. While Sri Lanka are the defending Asia Cup champions at the end of the day, they aren't in good shape, and injuries have led to the absence of key players in the match today. Moreover, Sri Lanka have lost four of their last ten games against Bangladesh. Bangladesh, on the other hand, suffered a blow after Litton Das was ruled out on the eve of the tournament. However, with a diverse team of youth and experience and Pallekele conditions that are likely to suit Bangladesh spinners, the team have an upper hand.
